Let the game begin

It started with a bloody room in San Diego, where hundreds of people got to explore the latest crime scene of the so-called Infinity Killer.

An on-location team pointed players to serialhuntress.com. There, the Serial Huntress works to deliver Justice By All through a crowdsourced approach to hunting serial killers.

Meanwhile, letters smeared in blood on the mirrors led players to sleepsuperbly.com. The strange sleep therapy site glitches to reveal videos of F8, a dark character that seems to be connected to the Infinity Killer murders.

Hunter. Prey. Let the game begin.

JUDGE AND JURY

Last week was big. Players assembled a jury of influential Twitter users, got a live audio broadcast of the Infinity Killer’s latest murder, and bid $300 on eBay for a souvenir from the kill. On a more, say, meta level, players created IRC channels to collaborate in real time, as well as @F8sD8s, a Twitter account where you can follow the latest developments of the game. It even comes with a twibbon!

GREAT PACKAGES

Players discover the audio of Joe Wellmont’s murder, turning “I’m gonna have you fried like calamari” into a little inside joke. Shinyone receives a package from Mentis Sanitarium, leading to avid speculation on a carved Rubik’s cube, strange drawings, and a possible letter from the killer. Not to mention, more jokes about “Heath’s package.”

KILLER ADDICTIONS

This week in Hunter/Prey, a new F8 therapy session led players to an 8-step program to relinquish their control addictions. Players who completed the program, which included Twitter confessions, apologetic someecards, and reactive video uploads, discovered a chilling audio recording. Then, the Serial Huntress’ second briefing video detailed another Infinity Killer murder, that of Miami drug lord Santos Jimenez who died of a heroin overdose after being stuck with 8 syringes and gagged with a pool ball. Tracking down his globetrotting security technician revealed a potential physical description of the Infinity Killer.

On another note, a lot of great Hunter/Prey resources are being created by the community, from excellent forum threads on unfiction and serialhuntress.com, to player-generated recaps like angelnorelation’s. Check those out for more details.

Here is the extended summary, but be warned, spoilers ahead.
